Weight Watcher Wednesday....Update Week 15

Well, I didn't update you last week since I felt that .6 lbs wasn't much to update on, so I figured I'd wait until today's weigh in to give you a 2 week update. However, today I was also once again ready to face the bleak possibility of my "reality" because Mother Nature came early, and as most of you women out their know...that never fairs well on the scale.  Well once again, I have proved that showing up and weighing in when you don't want to has its surprises.

So last week, I went down -.6 lbs, and this week I am happy to announce another - .6 lbs (1 pound in 2 weeks)

So as of today, I have a happy total weight loss of  15.2 lbs!!

YAY!  They even gave me 3 little 5 lb. star stickers as recognition!

I am very excited, but I am happier that my hard work and sacrifices are paying off. It continues to be hard to say 'No' to the things that I really would like to have, and I honestly have struggled a lot these past few weeks with this, but I keep reminding myself of the big picture...My healthy self!

I found this on Pinterest the other day, and its turned into a Weight Watcher saying, but it fits perfectly for me today...

Let me make it very clear- I am not skinny! And I don't intend to ever be rail thin either because I actually don't mind my curves (is that bad to say? lol), but working at and finding this new sense of "skinny" for me is tasting mighty fine!!!

May you all feel fantastic this week, and every week!

The final show of  a woman who has motivated millions of people through her examples of love, passion, hope and generosity. I personally have taken MANY life lessons from the vast topics she has covered over the past 25 years.

I just wanted to share some motivations that are similar to what I've heard/learned by watching Oprah...motivation through words and even style...Enjoy!

Meeting the Cast of Parenthood!!!!

Last night I had the last minute opportunity to go to a “Meet the Cast” Panel for the TV Show Parenthood at the Academy of Television Arts and Science Building.  I’m soo glad I did!! I follow the show on Facebook and I saw this post yesterday afternoon:

If you are in or around Los Angeles,  please join us for “An Evening with the Cast and Producers of ‘Parenthood’”
ATAS panel at the Leonard Goldenson Theatre TONIGHT! RSVP: 818-840-2250.

OMG! I couldn’t believe it. It was too close not to go…So I RSVP’d!!! I didn’t know what to expect but I surprisingly got emotional right away. I truly love this show!!!

Parenthood is a TV show on NBC based on the original 1989 movie made by Ron Howard about different families and the different situations they all have. I honestly don’t remember seeing much of the movie, but I remember I was intrigued when I saw the first commercial for this show because one of the story lines they were showing was about a family who was dealing with a son with High Functioning Aspergers Syndrome. Bingo…my kind of show!

For those of you that don’t know, my middle son, Danny, is High Functioning Asperber’s too!  So this show means a lot to me as they have done such a great job providing awareness to this disorder, and I have been watching religiously for 2 seasons.

This show just has beautiful writing and has an incredible way to portray real life situations is such true form with the perfect balance of drama and a touch of comedy with perfect timing.  This show can make you cry one minute, and then have you laughing the next. The cast is amazing and includes Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls), Craig T. Nelson (Coach), Dax Shepard (Punk'd) and many more well known actors.

All their story lines are relatable to me in one way or another and have impacted my life in many ways, and it was obvious that it has done the same with soo many others who were there yesterday to show their support for the show.

They started off with the screening of the Season Finale that had aired on April 19th, and of course it made me cry all over again. Then they brought out the panel of actors, the director and one of the main writers.

Right off the top, they were all making us laugh. They are just very funny people and they interact deliciously together.
The moderator was Jason Ritter, who has also been a guest star on the show.
Jason Ritter took turns asking the individual actors some questions, and then they opened it up to the audience. They took about 5-6 main questions all ranging from compliments to technical questions and wondering what direction the show will be taking next season.

As soon as it was over, I saw that some of the actors were sticking around on stage talking to people, and so I made my way down quickly and pushed myself to the front (oops, did I do that) to catch them since I was too shy to say anything out loud earlier.

The first person I went up to was Monica Potter, who plays Kristina Braverman, the mother of the Asperger’s son named Max.  I LOVE her character and I love the way she plays this mom. I relate to her soo much, and I told her that I cry with her, I laugh with her, celebrate and suffer with her through Max's experiences as I go through the same emotions she does a lot of the times. I don’t always agree with her, but I feel like I can always relate to her character as an Aspy parent.  She appreciated everything I had to say and I started to tell her that the episode that has impacted me the most was the one where they are forced to tell Max about his Aspergers syndrome even when they didn't feel ready to. As parents of an Aspy child, Jerry and I have not crossed that bridge yet either, but after seeing this episode it has given us the courage and guidance to do just that with our Danny.

We are waiting until the summer time to sit down with him, but that episode helped us decide to take that important step in helping Danny understand who he is.  It was a touching moment for me as I saw her welling up in tears as I told her this, and kept telling me how important it was for her to hear this. She even asked me to talk to the producer, Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights), next and tell him so he can see the impact it was having. She asked me for a hug and I said, “Thank you for being Kristina,” and she responded saying “ Thank you for letting me be Kristina.”

OMG!! Sooo sweet!! She was gracious enough to take 2 pictures with me (one was over exposed, the other two dark...oh well) and signed my agenda for me.  It was a very special moment for me!!

So next I went to visit Jason Katims and spoke to him, and told him the same story and he was also very gracious. His son is also Asperger’s and the child who the character Max is based on.  I told him this story line meant more to me because I knew the stories are based on somebody's true life experiences like my own.

I also saw Erika Christensen (Julia Braverman-Graham). I met and spoke with Lauren Graham (Sarah Braverman) for a few seconds, and as I was walking out to leave was pleasantly surprised to meet with the fantastic little boy who plays Max, Max Burkholder.  Who BTW, does NOT have Asperger's but is soo dead on at his role that he has people convinced he does!! A great compliment in my book. I met his mother as well, who was soo nice and appreciated my compliments of her son, and I got to take a picture with him.  His character’s case of Aspergers is a slight different/severe than Danny’s but I see a lot of Danny in this portrayal of an Aspergers child, and the very similar situations that have come up for parents like Jerry and I.  I hold Max’s character very close to my heart.

I had little conversations on the way out with others that were there, and coincidentally enough most were parents of Aspy children. Only to confirm how much of an impact this show is making on parents of special needs children out there.

So I left on such a high!!! I am only that much more enamored of this show and its cast members as they showed and proved to me just how much they love playing the characters they play. They truly expressed how much they care about representing their characters as true to form as possible. You can’t ask for more out of such a great show!

I can’t wait for season 3 and I hope that you’ll check it out and make it one of your favorite shows to watch. It is on NBC on Tuesday Nights at 9pm. You can catch up by watching full episodes here or on www.hulu.com.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody and thank you for stopping by!!

Monday Motivations

Pinterest has easily become one of my most favorite sites to visit at least once week. Its a site that allows you to save any and all of your favorite things (ie- pictures, ideas, images) that you may come across as you surf the web. Just imagine a virtual pin up board of your newspaper/magazines clipings you would have to look at for future reference. Well now you can keep one online and Pinterest stores it all for you for free and it takes up no counter space and doesn't collect any dust and you best of all you can share your boards with others and follow those you like too...LOVE IT!!

Well one of the things that I love to find on Pinterest are images of motivational sayings or just words that just pull at my heart strings, hit me dead on, but more importantly help motivate me in some area of my life.  They are beautiful pictures and visually inviting which makes it easier for it to stick in my mind. So I'd like to share some of those with you as I find my weekly motivations to particularly fit the kind of week I may just be having.

Can't wait for those to come!

Weight Watcher Wednesday – Update week 13

Ok so, being totally grateful… I’m down .8 lbs for the week!

Almost 1 pound!! :)

Breakfast for Dinner on Weight Watchers
This week I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes, and one that I had last night for dinner while my boys were splurging on a full on breakfast.

The Must Have Omelet (my version): 6 points

1 large egg(s) (2pts)

2 large egg white(s) (1 pt)

1 slice of Kirkland lean ham (1pt)

1/8 tsp table salt, or to taste

1/8 tsp black pepper, or to taste

½ teaspoon of butter/margarine/olive oil (1 pt)

¼ of a green bell pepper, finely chopped (0pts)

(I like adding red bell peppers too)

½ small tomato(es), seeded and diced (0pts)

1/8 of a cup of Kraft Mexican shredded cheese (1 pt) or 1oz. of Mexican Cacique Cheese

Instructions

• In a small bowl, whisk together egg, egg white, salt and pepper just until blended; set aside.

• Cut the slice of ham into small squares or pieces

• In a large, nonstick omelet pan, heat oil/butter over medium heat. Brown the ham and veggies.

• Then add egg mixture and tilt pan so eggs cover entire pan bottom. Cook, without stirring, until bottom of eggs begins to set, about 30 seconds.

• Cook eggs, moving pan back and forth over heat, until cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes; fold in half to serve.

• Sprinkle choice of cheese over the omelet and serve. Add some fresh salsa for a kick....YUMM!!

• Yields 1 serving

This recipe is absolutely delicious and it makes a hardy serving. There is no way you can feel like you are deprived of a good breakfast with this recipe. I like to serve it with a great cup of coffee and on a pretty plate to make it more special and you get this...

I also had about 12 points to spend on dinner last night so I had 2 turkey bacon slices (2pts), and 1 serving of oven baked tater tots (4 pts) and felt completely satisfied and enjoyed breakfast at dinner with my family. It was a treat for all of us!

You can add or delete your favorite items and make it your own. Try the recipe out and let me know how you like it!!

To a great breakfast for dinner or otherwise....from my corner to yours....

Tackling it Tuesdays

Mondays are my day to kind of wind down from the weekend, start my work week over, figure out what I’ve got going on during the week in regards to sports schedules and appointments, birthday parties and whatever else I’ve got to do and when. So I do a mental calendar/agenda of sorts to get me organized and/or write it down on my phone’s calendar. Tuesday seems to be the day to get those things going...when I at least start tackling the things that need to get done for the week.

Whether they get done or not is another issue. Ugghh!

Tuesday is also the day that the new grocery store adds come in the mail for the sales that start on Wednesdays. I sleep, eat and breathe budgets people, so this is a must for me! This is when I figure out my shopping lists, and according to what I need for the week, I write down the specials per grocery store so that I know where to get the best deals. I have a special organizer that I write them down in, and then I plan out which stores I will end up going to on Wed/Thursday. As a side note: I have been wanting to figure out this phenomenon of extreme couponing to help me out with the shopping, but I haven’t gotten there yet and that will be a blog post in itself.

Do you extreme coupon?? Let me know how that works for you…I’m soo intrigued.

Anyway, the rest of the week is a combination of seeing my week through with the shopping, attending the kids’ sports events, and dealing with homework and school projects, and any parent meetings I might have.

Thank goodness, aside from our normally scheduled activities and work, this week will be pretty mellow for me after recovering from last week’s festivities. BUT in the weeks to come…I’ve got Christian and Daniel’s graduations to help out with, Daniel’s class trip to Catalina to go on, my SIL’s wedding shower to help put on, and as Team Mom for Christian’s baseball team, I will be figuring out end of the season parties and events.

The truth is there is always something to plan ahead and work on. Am I right?

What does your To-Do-List look like? What do you tackle on Tuesdays? Or do you have another day that works better for you?? Would love to know.

Here’s wishing you a productive week from my corner to yours…

Mothers Day 2011

Yesterday was a very special Mothers Day for me! It included my boys waking me up with a song Jerry had written with their help, (so cute and funny), I received lots of love, beautiful tulips and a set of highly desired concert tickets to the Monkees!! But I was also gifted with it being the day we celebrated Mikey’s 1st Holy Communion. So the day was set for many blessings!

As practicing Catholics, it’s been important for Jerry and I to make sure that the boys are brought up with a strong faith in God, which includes going to church every Sunday and receiving their Sacraments. So Mikey is the last one of our babies to go through the 2 year preparation necessary for this big day.

The Brotherhood of the Hand-me-down Suit
Just an interesting note on Mikey’s suit- The suit he wore is one that has been worn by his two brothers before him for the same occasion. It became a sentimental token like their Baptism outfit (also the same one worn by all 3 boys) after Christian wore it first for his 1st Communion that I had to put it away for both Daniel and Mikey. The interesting thing, however, is that I haven’t made any alterations to the suit at any point in time between each use, and yet the suit has fit each of my boys completely differently! Totally reminding me of the book of the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants.  Pretty cool I thought!

The Ceremony - It was a very nice ceremony and Mikey was one of 16 children in this small group to participate in the 9:30am 1st Communion Mass. He lead the procession of children into Church and was picked to participate as one of the children to bring up the gifts during the Offertory Procession. He was nervous but very excited and proud to be a part of it.

We weren’t really allowed to take pictures in the Church (hence no pictures of any of the above moments), but Jerry snuck this one during the singing of a song the kids did after they received Communion. They sang and hand signed this beautiful song which made me cry…I was soo proud!

BrunchBecause it landed on Mother’s Day, and it was an early mass it made it a perfect occasion to host a small brunch to celebrate both special occasions with the family and close friends. But as I have mentioned before, I believe any size celebration is worth planning for.

So I did, and like with any party I plan, I start months ahead by buying things a little bit at time, ahead of time, so that it doesn’t all hit my monthly budgets all too hard (always one of my party planning tips).

I’ve made each of the boys celebrations, all though always small but as special as possible, and I love setting the ambiance and mood to make it that way. I had tables set, white curtains, fresh flower bouquet centerpieces that were also Mothers Day bouquets for my Mom and Mother-N-Law, and Mikey's Godmother

Loved the Blue bottle vases from IKEA (my new favorites) and flowers from Trader Joes

I love when I find great little treasures like these party favors at the 99cent store. Cute little Cross jewelry boxes and I personalized them by putting Mikey's picture, occasion and date on them.

One of his Godmothers, Adri (My BFF), offered to buy him a special cake for this day. But in grand Mikey style he sat us down and prefered that we make it from scratch (love that he loves homemade stuff), and he had very specific requests….had to be vanilla cake, 2 layers, with chocolate frosting in the middle, white frosting on the outside, with chocolate crosses on all 4 corners and last but not least, he gave us some apprehensive creative license to decide on a special drawing for the top of the cake!!! Well Thank you, Mr. Mr. Mikey for your confidence! LOL! So here is what we created together…

I think we did a pretty good job (although that was a process too),  and he was obviously very happy with his specially homemade cake! It turned out very cute and tasted yummy too!

I was supposed to take pictures of Mikey with the family when we got home, but we were in the house no more than 5 minutes and the dress clothes were off the child and the playing began! So much for the formalities of the day!

All in all, it turned out to be a really nice brunch for Mikey's special day and great time spent with the special ladies in my life including my Mom, my In Laws, and my girlfriends who are all Moms and who share this very special job we call Motherhood.

Thank you to all who shared this day with us
and
Lots of love and admiration to ALL my Dear Girlfriends and Mothers out there!

Here's hoping that your Mother’s Day was just as special from my corner to yours...
