Weight Watcher Wed- My 3 year Anniversary

So I was looking back through my blog last night and realized I hadn't done a WW update in over year.
I found my 1st year Anniversary post and then also realized that this month was actually my 3rd year Anniversary being on the Point Plus Weight Watcher plan!!

Lol, I sound like a 12-step member-

"Hi! My name is Sandy"
"Hi, Sandy!"
"I've been..."

I guess its kind of like that, maybe?

Anyway, I can't believe its been 3 years, and its been full of literal ups and downs (on/off the scale), but always full of real life/food choices, and I love that Weight Watchers has allowed me to fit in my real life, and that's how this journey was supposed to be. I am at a different place now, and I can't help but feel that the changes have been so much more than physical for me. There is nothing that can measure the personal growth I have "gained" for every pound I have lost- physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually all around.

So in keeping with this anniversary theme I decided to take new pictures to give a more complete  update.  I put on the same dress I wore for my 40th b-day (which I still love)  but at this point has been officially fitted and taken in via the sewing machine- there's no going back now!

 Feb. 2011                                            Feb. 2012 (38lbs lost)                             Feb. 2014 (52.8lbs lost)

As of today I have lost a total of  52.8 pounds and I am 1/2 a pound away from my goal. Yay!
I'll be honest though, I was kind of upset at this morning's weigh in because I was hoping to hit my goal on this anniversary. I've been hovering up and down over this goal of mine for more than a few months now, and I can't seem to get to it yet...Ugghh!  But instead of getting frustrated, I had to take a step back, and look at my overall success and remember that this has been the first time in my life that I have kept off this amount weight for such an extended period of time! So for me- That's huge and the most important thing!

So I am telling all of you this for a few reasons:

1- I'm keeping this update real and very honest for both you and me-  I want you to see that its not always easy, that even with success come very real ups and downs, but its about riding those moments out and persevering to accomplish the overall goal.

2- This keeps me accountable- and honestly feeling very vulnerable!! It is not easy to put myself out there like this, but this accountability gives me the motivation I need to continue on WW.

3- This is a work in progress-  Its taken 3 years to get here, and I am still going at it. I can't stop now. I just know that I'm really afraid of going back. So for me, it will truly be an ongoing life process.

4- Patience- (My OLWord in action here as well) Weight loss takes time! There is nothing overnight about it. It is about making progress over time and not giving up! My hope is to inspire even its just one person out there who is on their own journey to never give up! Its about progress, any kind of progress. I have technically only lost 2.8lbs this past year, but considering the fact that in the past I would have probably gained all my weight back instead? Overall loss!! It is definitely progress in the right direction, right?!

So in regards to getting to my goal...I will get there! Maybe not next week (its my birthday weekend so there will be some celebrating going on), but I will get there...soon!

My hope in doing this update, is that you take away even a little something to inspire you wherever you may be in your journey be it weightloss or otherwise to help you succeed! I believe it all applies in one way or another, don't you?

And for all those who have always been there and continue to support me...I will forever Thank You!

From my little corner to yours...Thank you for stopping by!

Project Life - December Daily and the finished project

Today is the day I finish off Project Life for 2013 for you all, and I'm so excited. I can finally take this weight off my shoulders...well kind of?  You see, I've already started my 2014 Project Life album so I'm still at it. Documenting life really never ends as I tried to explain to my hubby last night, but that's the beauty of PL as well. Its easy enough to continue doing without a lot of pressure.

Ok so as I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to share the month of December separately because I actually combined my normal Project Life along with a second project called December Daily. This is a project that Ali Edwards does every December 1st- Christmas Day. The gist is to concentrate on one story or moment each day that may or may not have to do with the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Its just a way to document the holidays differently. Ali does this project completely in its own 6x8 album but since this was my first year doing it, I did not want to complicate my life anymore than necessary so I decided to make this a part of my Project Life Album. I would just be documenting something daily instead of weekly within my normal 12x12 page protectors. No problem.

To differentiate these pages I started this section with its own cover page. Simple and honestly not super decorative but it worked and it was done. I'm always about just getting it done.

Ali gives you page ideas and one of them was to write a letter to Santa, so that's what I did. I added this letter on the back side of the cover page to set the tone for the rest of these pages, and I added a collage of our lights and decorations for this year. I think I'm going to do that every year just to see If we end up doing things differently.

I started my daily pages by doing 2 days per side so here are days 1 and 2.  I started day one by taking a picture of the very first X-mas card we got in the mail. I love getting Christmas cards and I thought it would be nice to remember that Jerry's boss was the first one to get her card to us. Day 2 was Cyber Monday and I wanted to remember that for the first time ever Jerry and I actually took huge advantage of some really great deals that day and got a pretty good jump start in our holiday shopping. I really felt like this took off a lot of pressure and holiday shopping was fairly stress free this year and that felt sooo good. I hate last minute shopping. Definitely something to remember.

I'm not necessarily going to talk about each day to spare you too much detail, but I hope you can see that I really did try to document one simple thing that would make that day special to us from our new Elf on the shelf, a Starbucks coffee treat, an attempt to make a new holiday decoration to a special day for Mikey.

So day 7 I dedicated a whole page to Mikey's B-day...it just had to be that way. The next few days were kind of jammed packed so I had to resort to my collages to get a few more details in, but I was happy with that. Another picture I think I will also do annually will be the wrapping paper I will be using that particular year. It will be fun to see the different themes or colors used under the tree.

We had a jammed packed weekend including 3 Xmas parties one Saturday night along with another celebration the following day.  That following week I missed one day, but I wasn't going to worry about it. The rest of the week was busy with the start of our novenas, more food binges,
and school holiday functions for the boys.

This last week before Christmas got a little tough since that's when my mom had her accident and things got a bit chaotic and stressful. We tried to keep that holiday spirit going by attending the remaining novenas and using them a source of prayer for my mom and her recovery, and we tried to make Christmas Eve as special as possible for all of us. It proved to be a special week for me to remember all the love and support our friends provided us. True friendship at its best this week and I couldn't have been more grateful to be in their company during this time.

Chrismas Day took its own page as there was all kinds of fun to be had as we spent a little bit of time with all our different family members throughout the day. And I ended up finishing up the week with New Years Eve antics we wont soon forget.

An overall note about this December Daily: One thing I was pleasantly aware of, if you look back, you'll notice as I did that I really spent a lot more time documenting in words as much as I did with pictures. Much more than I have done all year to be honest, and that has given me such immense satisfaction...more than I can express! I've always been really big on journaling, but I've definitely been lacking in that area throughout the year, and this project helped me remember just how important journaling is to this whole process. So I've made it my goal for 2014 to concentrate on definitely including a lot more journaling in my pages.

And here is the last page of my 2013 album.
Completing this page made it official for me. It was finally done!!!
Woohoo!!!

But the story definitely doesn't end here. As I start working on 2014, I'm already implementing some changes to reflect some things that I've learned from doing the project this past year. I'm learning what works and what doesn't to make this experience better or maybe just different...again, we'll see.

Thank you all for coming back post after post to go on my family's picture journey along with me.
I apologize as I know that there are only so many pictures any one person can look at a time, but I appreciate your patience and sticking with me throughout the year.

From my corner to yours...hope you'll be back for 2014!

XO

Project Life - finishing up 2013

Well hello there!!

I'm going to change directions on us here and go back to 2013 for a minute. Ha! You guys thought I had forgotten about my Project Life, didn't you? You thought maybe It would be hard to get it finished?  Well, I'm happy to let you know that -Yes, I did!

I couldn't imagine taking this project this far and then not finishing it. It was important to me to really follow through on this especially because as most of you scrapbookers out there know, there is nothing more discouraging than an incomplete scrapbook, right?! Anyway, It took a little bit of time, but I have successfully completed my family's first Project Life for 2013. Hooray!!!

I actually finished it a few weeks ago, but as usual, its getting them pictured and posted here on the blog that ends up taking more of the planning and doing, but I'm getting this done today.  Here is where we left off the last time I posted- Weeks 37-44.

So here we go with weeks 45-48. I finished these in the standard weekly manner I have done all year. One week per page protector to make it real easy to finish as I picked the main pictures to display.

Week 45- Included a huge (vampire-like) tooth pulling, the cousins spending some quality time at our house, a dinner with the Tios and the baby after some weeks of sickness, and an outing with a new friend for Daniel. Lots going on as the true busy season heads our way.

Week 46- Included a day off, some walking, subscribing to a new source of information, some personal reflection, and getting my album decorated for its finish.  And at this point there was truly only 6 weeks left.

Weeks 47 and 48- Included the beginning of our weekly family birthdays (I'm not kidding- one a week, sometimes 2, starting November 18th through mid December!) and the kringe worthy food fest from these said birthdays and of course Thanksgiving! But on the flip side- this also meant a lot of family time and celebrating...so how much can we really complain. Some of our best memories always come from these celebrations, and I feel like I documented as many of those as possible in these 3 pages. It was also the beginning of Katarina's 1st's of every holiday of her life so I got a few of those moments as well.

So this gets me to the end of November 30th.  I'm not done obviously, but here I decided to add this 8.5x11 baseball card pocket protector so I could add 2 different sets of "photo essays" I didn't really know where to put.  On the front side of the protector, I included pictures from my photo essay I had done of a
Trip to Target  that I wanted to make sure I got in the album. On the back side I included the pictures of some practice shots I took of the boys that turned into a photo shoot of them.

This was a really great way to get these pictures into the album as a stand alone insert, and I was excited to have a new way to share more pictures this way in the future.

I have one more catch up post for tomorrow in which I will show you what I did with the last 4 weeks of 2013. It will be the whole month of December in its own format, so please come back tomorrow to check out what I did with that.

I hope I have pleasantly surprised you with this Project Life update, and if anything I hope its helping you realize that it is possible to document a whole year's worth of memories with Project Life. Please head over to Becky Higgins.com for more information. I have enjoyed receiving a few questions from some of my traditional scrapbooker friends, and I would love to walk anybody through this project at some time.

Thank you again for stopping by to check this out.

From my corner to yours...see you tomorrow!

PERSONAL NOTE: I just want to make something clear because I have been asked- I am NOT selling Project Life supplies and I am NOT a consultant for Becky Higgins. Project Life is not a consultant driven product. That is what I truly love about this product!  I am just a new believer in this system and I am free to use any/whatever supplies I wish to complete this, and I am just here to share my experience with all of you. If you are interested, these supplies can be purchased via Amazon.com, Beckyhiggins.com, and your local Michaels craft store (@which I use my 40% off coupons to purchase Project Life items- Woohoo!) and coming soon to be sold at your local JoAnn's fabric store too. Thanks again! :)

Foto Friday...Katarina's 1st B-day

Its Friday again! Trust me, I'm not complaining, its just that these weeks are once again flying by.
We were just getting ready for this little girls birthday a week ago, and its already come and gone.
So for this Foto Friday I have a few pictures of Katarina I wanted to share of her special day.

Katarina actually had a few dress changes throughout her party. She arrived in a simple
Minnie Mouse dress and then they changed her into her real party dress...

OMG! The ultimate birthday dress for sure! She was just too cute!!

Her little friends and family where there to celebrate with her

Then it was time for cake..

but more importantly time for her smash cake..

This is was the moment Casandra and Serg were most excited about. They couldn't wait to see her reaction. Well she honestly did not know what to do! She has never had cake before so this was a totally new thing for her. And if anything, her reaction was to get frustrated with the frosting sticking to her fingers and not being able to get it off which just meant it getting all over her.
Loved it!

Katarina's first year truly just flew by us. We have had soo much fun with her!
Like I've said before in a house full of boys, this feisty little girl has been such a bright addition to our lives.
I have personally appreciate the added touch of pink in our homes because of her ;)

Anyway, we had a great time helping her celebrate and have fun!

 Happy 1st Birthday Katarina!
We Love You!

XOXO

DIY- Minnie Mouse B-day decorations...

Did you all have a good weekend?

Well, thankfully we did as well. It was not only a busy one, but it was very fun as we celebrated my niece, Katarina's 1st B-day. My SIL, Casandra, had a Minnie Mouse Bowtique Tea Party theme as the ideal theme for her 1st birthday party. She picked out her vision via Pinterest (we love Pinterest!), and I just helped her execute her plan. She is self declared as being "non-creative" but I have to say that motherhood and wanting to do everything possible for her first child is clearly waking up that creative side in her, and I'm so excited to see that bloom. It will be so much fun to work together.  So I will have pictures to share later this week of the party, but today I wanted to share some of the DIY decorations I came up with for the party and for Katarina.

Sweater Pillow and Hand warmers

http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2014/01/sweater-heart-pillows.htmlIts hard not to come across a multitude of different blogs that have their own amazing DIY ideas, and I love them because its always fun and amazing to see the stuff some of these ladies come up with and share with their readers.  One of those blogs I follow is the eighteen25. I was introduced to them a few years back when I followed their idea for Christmas Card books that I now I make every year for our household. I follow them on Facebook as well, and a few weeks back they posted this cutest idea for a heart shaped sweater pillow for Valentines season. (click on the picture for link). The idea is to take any old cable knit sweater from your closet or a thrift store and you can make any pillow out of it. Soo cute, right?! I hadn't sewn anything in a while so it was a great chance to do something for Valentines...But as the idea swirled in my head along with planning Katarina's party, I took the idea a step farther and figured that I could "easily" convert this pillow into a Minnie Mouse pillow idea.  So Thank You ladies from eighteen25!

So following directions from eighteen25, this is what I did:
* I found a cable knit sweater at a goodwill store for $3.00 (washed it of course), and laid it out on the  floor inside out.
* Made a cardboard stencil of half a Mickey face and just turned it around to trace both sides of the face. (I had to modify my drawing as I went along to get the right look. It wasn't perfect, but it worked)
* I pinned the two sides of the sweater pieces together, cut it out and then machine sewed them together
* Turned it inside out and stuffed it.
* I hand stitched the top to close it up.

Then you take an 8x10 square of black felt and you pinch it in the middle and sew it in place. I added the little extra piece of hot pink felt for an added touch.
And within less than hour I had myself what looked like a "Minnie Mouse" pillow.
Cute, right??

Minnie Handwarmers:  I am not one to let good material to go to waste so as I sat and looked at the remaining parts of the cut up sweater I realized there was enough space on the arms to make little Minnie heads with a smaller Mickey head stencil I had printed up. But what to make them into? Hmmm...it has been really cold so I thought- hand warmers! Perfect!

So in the same fashion as the pillow, I actually hand stitched them, pulled them inside out, filled them with rice, and stitched them closed. I added little bows on them and voila...Minnie Mouse hand warmers!
You stick them in the microwave for 10-20 seconds and you can put them in your coat pocket to warm up your hands.

So for $3 I made a big pillow for Katarina (which she loved btw) and 24 hand warmers for the guests at her party.
Not a bad deal for a DIY craft,
and they made for a cute party favor.

Planning a party for me is always an excuse to get creative with my hands so here are a few other things I made to make Katarina's party theme come together:

Centerpieces-

These are the centerpieces I made for the party tables. The circles are foam circles (Target $ section) that I had previously used and painted yellow for Casandra's baby shower so I  re-purposed them by painting them hot pink (2-3 coats to cover up the yellow). Then I found these pretty boa's at the 99 cent store (Valentines section) that was long enough to count into 4 pieces and put them in the middle.

Casandra had a friend make her some cute Minnie Mouse Cricut cut outs that I hot glued onto sticks and stood up in some painted foam bases (also from the Dollar tree) to complete the pieces. This is how the final centerpiece looked on the tables.

Candy table:

One of the things that Casandra really wanted was a small candy table for the kids so we made that happen with appropriately colored Valentine candy readily available around this time, so it made it pretty easy to fill up and decorate empty jars and vases I had around the house.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels:
But in addition to the candy, I had been wanting to make and decorate chocolate covered pretzels that my SIL, Adriana, had made for a baby shower. I couldn't find the pretzel sticks she used so I bought a barrel of thick pretzels from Costco and used those instead. And they came out really cute.

This was again another super easy DIY food craft, and it also took less than 1/2 hour to make about 50 pretzels. This could also be such a versatile food craft for any occasion just by changing up the chocolate color and/or the sprinkles or decorations you'd like to use. Target always has sprinkles in the dollar section, and I found these pink circle sprinkles that were perfect for this occasion.

Minnie Mouse Cake:

Katarina had a smaller little get together (she's a first child what I can say ;) the night before her main kiddie party and I attempted to make a Minnie Mouse cake.  I couldn't promise Serg and Cas that I'd be successful, but they were happy with what I came up with.  As you can see, I made 3 seperate cake cirlces and cut out the smaller ones to make the ears. I crumb coated the cake the night before and then re-frosted the cake to make it smooth the morning of.
I added another felt bow and left it nice and simple.

Mom's touch:
Casandra added some great creative touches herself by making these cute chocolate Minnie Mouse cupcakes. A first time attempt for the new mom and they turned out fantastic! She added mini-Oreos for the ears and tiny fondant circles to get the look she wanted and they were a hit with the kids of course.
They matched soo well next to the special homemade cake that my friend Sarah Salazar made for us.
She did such a beautiful job on it just from a picture Casandra gave her from Pinterest.

One of Casandra's initial inspirations for the menu was a sandwich cutter in the shape of a Mickey head she already had for Katarina. She used that to make ham/cheese and peanut butter/jelly tea sandwiches for the kids in addition to the delicious gourmet sandwiches she made for the adults. What a great way to add that special touch to the overall theme. Again, another big hit with the kids and some of the parents too ;)

As you can see, this party had a lot of homemade touches and it honestly all came together really nicely to make it a magical 1st birthday party for our little Katarina.  She may not remember all of this right now, but she'll look back on these pictures to see just how much love was put in to make her day special.

I hope you found a little inspiration and some easy ideas to try yourself for any future special occasions you might have.  I  hope you'll enjoy trying something new as much as I do.

From my corner to yours...Thanks for stopping by!

Foto Friday...Shantal's 6th bday

Hello there and I'm so glad its Friday again! How about you?

Well, here is another chance to share with you some pictures I've taken recently, but this little girl is never a stranger on my blog. Shantal is back and she is now 6 years old! I have been taking pictures of her on a yearly basis and thanks to her mom Angie, she has pleasantly allowed her to be my first photographic guinea pig since I seriously picked up my camera. Its not difficult to see why she makes such a great subject to shoot. She's a beautiful little girl, and loves pictures, but this year she was a little bit more shy with her smile than usual...someone is growing up ;)

Then there was Matthew, Angie's adorable nephew whom I've also photographed since birth last year. This whole family has a heck of set of beautiful eye colors, and I had to get at least a couple of this little guy in this fedora...he was just too much to resist.  (Thanks Nana, for letting me share your sweet baby boy!)

Shantal is Angie's baby girl so a party is always in order for her, and she spares very little to always make it top notch. This year she outdid herself by decorating this amazing fruit table herself instead of a candy table, and it didn't dissapoint.
I think I had just as much fun taking pictures of these beautiful arrangements as I did of Shantal.

Angie never ceases to amaze me and her party ideas are always inspiring.
I love to see what she comes up with every year.

Once again, Happy 6th Birthday Shantal!
Thank you Angie for allowing me to be "Shanti's photographer,"
and for trusting me to share her pictures here.
I am soo blessed to have you and your family in my life!!

XOXO

To all of you, from my corner to yours...
I hope you have a great weekend!
